Footwear Industry Training (Pty) Ltd. (FIT) has identified the need to explore new technologies in footwear development.
We are currently the leading company in South Africa pioneering research into sustainable materials from waste for affordable diabetic footwear.
Environmental Impact?
FIT has strategic partnerships internationally with organisations which have done extensive research with regard to life cycle assessment (LCA), including the following:
• Cradle-to-gate - a partial life cycle study where the product impact is confined to the production stage
• Cradle-to-grave - full life cycle study, up to the end-of-life disposal stage
• Cradle-to-cradle - where end-of-life disposal stage is a recycling process, after which identical new products are created.
Billions of pairs of footwear are produced and consumed annually globally. The design, production, consumption and disposal thereof are critical to determining its environmental impact.
